MAKING CONNECTIONS

Mark Tortelli, Industrial Analytics Manager, Lactalis American Group

Since 2010, Mark Tortelli has been a committed supporter of Canisius.  He graduated that year with his Bachelor of Science in business management and psychology.  His career has taken him to Citi, Hyland Software, Caesar’s Entertainment (Cleveland), Kaleida and for the last eight years, Lactalis.

“Each job focused on financial analysis, although in different industries and different skills.  At Citi I learned big data and at Caesar’s, P&L management and executive presentations.  Kaleida was all about human capital and labor, how to present and discuss financials with colleagues, not in accounting, so they could understand how the numbers affected their operations.”

Mark really found his professional home with Lactalis here in Buffalo (US headquarters).  As the Industrial Analytics Manager, he oversees financial analysis and reporting for four US manufacturing sites.   Early in his eight-year tenure, Mark completed his Wehle MBA with a global supply chain concentration.  He also served on the university’s Alumni Association for six years and last year helped launch and co-direct the ‘Golden Guild’ NIL Collective for Canisius student athletes.

“I’ve enjoyed paying it back and having students connect to the campus before they graduate.  This just makes our alumni network stronger which is what future students need.”

Mark is considered the “info interview king” in the LPD and often carves time out of his day to meet with students.  “This helps them so much to understand jobs, industries and what they need to do to be successful.  I’m happy to share my experiences and encourage them to take on new challenges.”

“Culture is everything.  Yes, you need to be able to do the job but working with a group of people that really are a team is invaluable.  Although Lactalis is the largest global dairy company and ninth global food company, it’s still a family-run business.  And it feels like one.  That’s how I think of Canisius.   Small, connected.  Great people with a heartfelt commitment.”
